Get your 2018 goals sorted

It’s that time of year again inspiring posts everywhere and the gym becomes way too packed out. It’s January and although you might feel like you’d rather rewind a few weeks it’s time to tune in and get planning for the year ahead.

 

Anyone that knows me, or my boyfriend (and trust me he’ll give you an earful) knows how much I enjoy highlighters, to do lists, colourful pens, daily, weekly, monthly planners, organisers and pretty much anything that makes me feel like I have my shit together (by the way I definitely don’t). And if you’re a bit like me it may be hard to take but all the daily organises in the world aren’t going to help you get anywhere if you don’t have a strong set of goals. No matter how colour coordinated your tabs are or how pretty your planner looks if you don’t know where you want to be you’re not going to know how to get there. So, we have put together a few little steps with a worksheet that will help you tackle 2018 and get you a few steps closer to where you want to be.

 

DREAM BIG

Start with where you want to be in 5 years. Go crazy! Don’t limit yourself, let you mind run wild, you want that beach front house in Byron Bay, you get it girl! What does your life look like? Where do you live? How is your career going? Do you have that cute French Bulldog yet? Get Pinterest-happy and create a goals board or even print it out and create your own 5 year vision board. The more detailed the better and clearer your goals will become.

 

NARROW IT DOWN

Now you know where you want to be in 5 years break it down into baby steps. Although your vision may seem out of reach at the moment you need to bring it down to smaller bite size achievable goals. What do you need to do to get there? Do you need to build a house, start a business? How will you create your ideal life? What can you do in 1 year to help move towards your 5 year goals.

 

MAKE IT MEASUREABLE

An unmeasurable goal is like trying to follow your dads driving directions without a GPS. You kind of know how to get there but it seems so far away and too hard to follow, your not sure if your making the right turn (and where the hell is the old post office anyway, I wasn’t born then dad!). You now know your goals for the year, it’s time to break these down even further into little measurable steps. You want to start a new business idea you’ve been thinking about for ages, you’re going to need to put away 3 hours a day to work on it. Break it down to things you can measure and tick off. Make it detailed, not just I want to save more. I want to save two thousand dollars by May..

 

WRITE IT DOWN

There is just something about putting pen to paper that makes it official. That’s why we have developed this little work sheet to help you get your 2018 goals sorted. Print it out and stick it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Tell your housemates, partner, hell tell your regular barista that makes your coffee of a morning. Getting your goals out there makes it feel a lot more real rather than a I’ll-do-that-one-day floating around in your head kind of goal.

 

CELEBRATE

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of ticking off a completed goal. Don’t forget to give yourself a big-god-damn pat on the back, eat a whole pizza do whatever makes you happy when you reach those goals. And remember to take a break, if you go off track that’s okay. The goal posts may shift as the year goes on and that’s fine too, go and binge watch that series on Netflix and come back refreshed and ready to get back into it.
